• Job Opening: Shop Assistant (casual and/or part-time)
  • Start Date: Fall 2024 
  • Availability Required: Some weekday coverage (Tuesday-Friday 11-5), some Thursday evenings, and some weekends (Saturday 11-4).


Role Responsibilities:

  • Work in our storefront at 258 Commercial St., downtown North Sydney.
  • Assist customers and provide a welcoming experience in the shop.
  • Receive inventory, price products, and merchandise.
  • Verify, package, and ship online orders.
  • Assist with online customer communication, package tracking, and returns.
  • Create accurate and persuasive web copy for products.
  • Work in Shopify to track inventory and update our website.
  • Develop and execute compelling content (story generation, writing, photography) for our email newsletter, blog, and Instagram and Facebook accounts.
  • Conceive and implement contests and promotions.
  • Organize in-store events.
  • Liaise with wholesale and consignment vendors.
  • Do market research
  • Clean the shop, i.e. sweep and mop, organize supplies, water plants, break down boxes, sort recycling, etc.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is dependable, trustworthy, and dedicated to our team and our company.
  • Has an entrepreneurial spirit and is capable of wearing many different hats, like managing social media, tracking inventory, crafting window displays, updating our website, ordering product, doing basic photography and graphic design, visual merchandising, writing and editing, maintaining organization documents, and replying to customer emails and messages.
  • Is passionate about supporting small business, makers, and shopping local.
  • Is an out-of-the-box thinker, and would love to think of ways to creatively help our vendors.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team, but is also comfortable working alone.
  • Is a self-starter, shows initiative, and seeks solutions before coming to management with problems to solve.
  • Gives great attention to presentation and detail.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace, and has some Excel experience.
  • Has reliable transportation.
  • Is friendly, personable, polite, enthusiastic, and loves to work hard and have fun!
